At times there are situations when you need to add leading zeroes to a given dataset in Excel, such as when you want to maintain records like Employee IDs or Transaction IDs within Excel and have a consistent look within the data set. 

When to Use: When you have a data set that is numeric/alphanumeric, and you want the result to be text.

Padding with Trailing Zeros…  =REPT(0,5-LEN(A2))&A2 where A2 is your cell with the original data, and 5 is the final length you’re looking for.
